Tools for Flammable A2L Refrigerants! - What does R454B and R32 require?
My AC guy has told me he has worked with R-454B refrigerants and tells me to avoid them cause they are highly flammable (opposed to the slightly flammable they tell you) cause they have propane in them. I currently have an AC unit that is on its dying legs with a R-410A. My guy tells me to get a new AC unit this year with R-410 and save half the money I would pay if I bought a new system after 2024 . Your thoughts or opinions?
I can’t speak to future pricing. That’s just speculation. However, 454b doesn’t have propane in it. That’s misinformation being thrown around
They’re all garbage except for Rheem/Ruud in my opinion.
What makes Rheem so good? 🙂
The one that is rust proof with best warranty… ductless
Great video. 1 recommendadtion. That disclaimer at the very end. Should think about putting that at the beginning.
As an electrician, specialty PVS/LiFePO4 grid tie, the future for HVAC can only be inverter, they integrate into modern energy efficient smart homes. I am not in the US, I cant believe you guys (or even the environmental / efficiency rules) still allows the use of the old fashioned single-phase capacitor start induction motors. When I have a sneaky look around the re-cycling centre, there is an entire dept for old air conditioning, hundreds of perfectly working non-inverter systems that have had to be upgraded. I bet in the US you can probably still buy fluorescent tubes and bulbs with filaments!
Ok, so if this is not recommended, I am wondering how to address the E4 error code on my okd minisplit. Made sure outside unit is clear of debris, all filters are cleaned, thermometer is fine. The only thing I can think of is the refrigerant, which makes sense because it is almost 15 yrs old. So, do I test the psi and add refrigerant or no? Any advise is appreciated.
Great info, I'm about to install in a home in the next two weeks.
Is 2.5 ton vs 3 ton a big difference for a/c in the northeast?
Get to the question already!
Thank you sir.
my house needed a 4ton system and i called an hvac company and they forced a 5ton on me [ the guy said it was okay to do that] and saying thats all they had in stock , , so he installed it and overcharged the hell out of me for doing the changeout. . . . . / / n no wonder all the hvac guys livve in PLUSH houses. . . . / / /
hvac guys aree very needed and they know that thats why all of them scam, cram, and overcharge / / / / / / if you are not doing that, , then you are one in 10,000, , , , dont say the others are not because then you will be a LIAR. . . . . . / / / / /
It is ridiculous now a/c techs will need two work vans one for the parts and equipment and the other one specifically for all the different refrigerants we have today the EPA bureaucracy is ridiculous and no one seem to do anything to fix problem
Heat pump will never be as efficient as natural gas
What's up fellow Virginian, I'm from the Northern neck too in Warsaw, I live out here in Phoenix Arizona now I have one room in my house that has trouble keeping up. I've also put blacked out curtains on the windows and it doesn't help. I feel like the air is not pushing enough through the vent there's only one event in the whole entire room
Hello! Have you had a pro take a look? Could be a simple fix
Samsung has terrible appliances, maybe they will fix Lennox leaky coils if it hasn't been fixed yet, customers run me off the property if I mention Lennox, to be clear I have never sold any Lennox, it was just mentioned and quickly shut down.
I’m not a fan of Samsung appliances either. We had a horrible experience with a washer and dryer
This guy rambled on and said nothing!
Sorry pal
I live in CT and I’m looking to get into trade school. The trade school I want to go to does not have HVAC so I need to decide should I start with plumbing first or electrician license first. And is there anyway to get licensed sooner lets say overlaps hours by being a plumber yet still honor those hours for HVAC license?
Hi! There Josh Griffin this is Jermey McGuire. I have a en suite upstairs my bedroom has high ceilings I have a supply vent up on the wall above my closet door, it’s facing the opposite wall where my bathroom is located.i have 2 windows that face south I got the windows closed up with blinds and I closed the curtains to keep the heat toward the windows.” I also have my ceiling fan on high; and I have an Arctic air 2.0 cooler on my nightstand, and I got it on high. And facing the opposite wall.” My bathroom has a supply vent above the sink, I put my Lasko pedestal fan in the bathroom. It’s on high I got the head tilted down it’s aimed toward the opposite wall where my closet is located. I also have my bedroom door open so I can get more circulation.”
I have my central heat and air unit in the attic like you were talking about and I'm wondering if the fan that removes the heat turns on and off or just runs constantly. Right now there's just two vent windows on the front and back of the attic.
Dodge is always helping a ford
haha. Yes!
This is a wonderful JV, both are based out of the Dallas area, and have outstanding products (I sell both). Samsung has proven to be a major player in the vrf market and I’m glad their distribution channel is exploding overnight! We carried Fujitsu, Mitsubishi, and now Samsung. Lennox made the right choice!
Nice. I haven't seen Samsung offered much on this side of the nation, but maybe that's going to change now
I just got R32, better, but not perfect.
The perfect refrigerant will be expensive I'd imagine for residential. Starts with a C and ends with an O2. 🙂
I did a little reading and just bought a dual inverter window ac (I know, window ac) even though we have a new roof top unit; Arizona. Will install in a day or two. It's over 110 degrees. Thank you for the explanation.

The HVAC industry is such a rip-off. I was sold a 4-ton unit, but the shipping crate said it weighed only 335 pounds.
Outrageous!
Samsung, with majority ownership, is boss. It means they have final decision. Doesn't mean they won't collaborate, but they will be driving the new venture. Samsung has a broad range of quality products, so the venture is likely to be successful.
I find it interesting that all these other major companies are "partnering" with other companies to manufacture ductless products. But you have Daikin over on the other side making their own and not partnering with anyone. They are also the only major HVAC brand that's not originally from the US.
This sounds interesting, Samsung has pretty good inverter heat pumps
Interesting. You’ve installed some?
@@NewHVACGuide unfortunately no, just seen them in action

Hello Joshua, early on I was a Lennox dealer. I found the technical support lacked. Later I became an American Standard dealer and their support was great, they had seminars and their territory managers were always available when we encountered odd problems.
Availability is a must for good support. Would have done anything different?
I work for a grocery chain that is in the slow process of changing over everything that is still r22. We have a store that is getting a renovation in the fall and everything is getting replaced with equipment that uses co2. We are beingntokd in some number of years co2 will become the new standard.
If they don’t find out something is mysteriously wrong with co2 all of a sudden, they are probably right. Especially in industrial
My basement is an icebox year round, but my top floor is a sauna. The only comfortable floor in the house is our middle floor. We noticed on the top floor the air is weaker. We also have no air return on the top floor. The temperature difference from the middle floor to the top floor is 5 to 15 degree difference on average, but the difference is higher at night. We also have a house that is facing the sun, so that also doesn’t help.
Daikin your sponsor is going with R32 because they already produce R32 systems. Daikin is investing in hopefully long term being able to develop a refrigerant with a GWP of 10 with "AI Technologies". But either way being able to avoid further GWP phase downs (Along with owning the patent potentially to a new ultra low GWP refrigerant) is financially best for Daikin. Rheem on the other hand has produced mainly F410A of late. And switching to R454B means they won't have any another potential cycle of phase downs in 2029. Only time will tell us which will be the better route.
A lot of gambling going on. Many hope you’re right.
Also I believe Johnson Controls (ie York, Coleman, Luxaire) partners with Hitachi for their mini split equipment. This seems to be the trend in the industry. Collaborations and sharing technologies and infrastructure isn’t really a bad thing for business. We’ll keep an eye on this new partnership between Lennox and Samsung.
So many partnerships
Innovation is what’s changing the industry for the better
If this leads to higher quality products and innovations I’m ok with it. Hopefully this partnership pushes the envelope and we get great products from it. I’ll remain positive on this until we see otherwise. Samsung does make a light commercial / residential heat recovery heat pump. That would be great to see if Lennox adopts any of that VRF technology and put that in their residential offerings powered by Samsung. Only time will tell.
I’m always hopeful of better products
Make your million on the many not on the 1 Many talk to many more and millions come your way by the many that send you many more Better reputation at fair price quality work Sell one at high price and when friends and neighbors talk about their price and service They will not talk about their techs Embarrassed Rather than proud and telling anyone that will listen Be honest be fair be an honest millionaire In the end we can not take money with us But our integrity we can Our name will be a proud name for our families for years after we are gone My thoughts
That’s almost a poem!
I live in the desert where AC is vital. My house has 4 Rheem units that run 24/7 8 months out of the year. Zero issues after 4 years.
Sounds hot 🥵 🙂
@@NewHVACGuide yeah, 112 degrees today 🙂

Hey, I am remodeling our basement. I have to work around what’s already there so I am leaving the ducts where they are and patching in return air vents where I can. Putting in two bedrooms an office and a workout area / storage room. Typically upstairs most rooms have two supply vents and one double stud bay wide air return. The basement rooms all just have one supply vent. And I am tying into the existing return vents from upstairs. I assume that’s about as good as I can do unless I try to enclose a free/ empty joist cavity essentially running new return air circuits. I’m using the logic that if the upstairs rooms have two supply vents and a double wide vent. Then the downstairs rooms with one vent will be adequate to tie into one joist cavity return from upstairs. And shouldn’t affect the overall airflow upstairs all that much. And be good enough to circulate air in the rooms downstairs.
Where's the comparison? I get the short is click bait for the full video, but at least link to the video!
I would go to a hvac parts store and get one
